ADMONITION AGAINST CARE ABOUT THE NECESSITIES OF LIFE, Matt. 6:25-34…3
The sum up of the great principles of the whole passage, Matt. 6:19-34 is seek things spiritual first, and things temporal will follow. He does not forbid our desiring temporal good; but says it must always be held as secondary and subordinate, to be obtained as a minor consequences of the pursuit of a higher aim. Mk. 10:28-30, 1Kg. 3:5-13.
- Matt. 6:31-32. “Therefore take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? Or what shall we drink? Or, where withal shall we be clothed? (For all these things do the Gentiles seek: ) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of these things”
- All these things of the class to which these (food, drink and clothing) belong, everything of this kind, that is; all temporal things. Theophyl says “He does not forbid eating; he forbids saying what shall we eat? “The Lord says, ‘Be not anxious; working is your business, caring is mine” Luther. 2Thess. 3:7-12, Act. 20:33-35.
- Matt. 6:32 offers two distinct reasons for avoiding anxiety:
- The Gentiles (heathen) seek after these things, it is unworthy of God’s people to be like them. The man without his live devoted to Christ lives a life is without a purpose.
- Our heavenly Father knows that we have need of these things, and we may be sure he will not fail to supply our needs.
- He is a perfect, loving and faithful father. Matt. 5:44-45, Ps. 145:8-9; 65:9-13; 104:10-23, 27-28, Act. 14:17
- The Lord’s work of redemption make God to become our father, we are no more slaves. Jn. 20:17; 1:12, Gal. 4:4-7, Rom. 8:14-17.
- Christ himself is today a compassionate Heb. 5:1-2 and sympathetic high priest. Heb. 4:14-16; 8:1; 10:12; 7:24-27
- Other reasons why God cares for you more than the unbelievers.
- You are blessed of the Lord. Gen. 24:31; 27:26-29; 48:15-16, Jn. 10:19-21; 17:6, 8-9, 18, 20, 22, Num. 6:24-27
- Because you bless others. Lk. 6:28, Rom. 12:14-15, Matt. 5:9-12
- Because you sow in tears. Ps. 126:5-6. Sowing what? The word – watering others. Pro. 11:25, 1Cor. 3:6, Is. 55:10; 58:11. Money or substance in others. Lk. 6:38, Act. 20:35, 2Cor. 9:7 Sowing in minister’s life. Gal. 6:6-8, 1Tim. 5:17-18, 1Cor. 9:7-14. Sowing in the ministry. Mal. 3:10, 2Cor. 9:6-11.
- You will eat when the unbelievers are hungry, drink when they are thirsty, and sing for joy when they are in pain and sorrow. Is. 65:13-14, 21, Ps. 37:25-26.
