THE PARABLE OF THE TEN VIRGINGS.….4

The coming of the bridegroom is certain. “The hurried and fruitless attempt, when the moment arrives, to make preparation which ought to have been made in advance, is deeply pathetic, and touches a sadly common fault in regard to readiness for meeting Christ or for meeting the messenger whom he sends to bear us away, even death” Broadus John A.

  1. Matt. 25:9 “…Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you; but go rather to them that sell…” The inability of the wise to help the foolish shows that faith in Christ is personal and our relationship with Him is not transferable.
  2.  They were inclined to help in the time of need but, ‘We must not, we cannot, we dare not, do it, lest there be not enough for us and you charity begins at home but go, and buy for yourself’ Henry. “The just shall live by his faith” Habb. 2:4. Everyone will give account of himself to God. Rom. 14:11-12.
  3. Matt. 25:10 The bridegroom came.  He will come in pump and rich attire, to attend to his friend; now is the time to fast, that the Bridegroom is away from us Matt. 9:15. He will come to take us to himself, where He is, we shall be. Jn. 17:24, Phil. 3:20-21. He is coming to rejoice with His bride Is. 62:5.
  4. ‘They went to buy’ No one can prepare when he comes. Now is the time of salvation, and the time of help. 2Cor. 6:2. Now is the time to set our affections on things above where Christ is. Col. 3:1-2. Now is the day to work for the Lord, then is the night when no man will work. Jn. 9:4. Now is the time to lay up your treasure above Matt. 6:19-21. Now is the time to make your lamps to be burning and have salt in you and be at peace with yourself and others. Mk. 9:50.
  5. They that were ready went in to be eternally glorified with Christ, to be in fellowship and never to be separated forever from eternal rest, peace, joy, and plenty.
  6. ‘The door was shut.’  Firstly, to secure those within, that are now pillars, they may go no more out. Rev. 3:12. Secondly, to exclude those that are out. The state of both saints and sinners are now fixed forever eternally, there is a great gulf, no one can go either sides, Lk. 16:26, like Noah’s ark. Gen. 7:16
  7. Matt. 25:11-12. ‘Lord, Lord, open for us’ Just as Esau was crying for help and was denied. Gen. 27:38, Heb. 12:14-17. They will never enter into His rest. Heb. 3:10-11; 4:1-6, 11.
  8. Matt. 25:13. Watch! Our duty is to watch, attend to the business of our soul, let our light be burning, be at peace with one another and be ready.
