  1. Matt. 24:48-49 “If that evil servant shall say in his heart, “My lord delayeth his coming. And begin to smite his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken”
    a. ‘He shall say in his heart’ God knows the heart of man is wicked Gen. 6:6, Ez. 38:10, Deut. 15:9, and what is going on in every man’s heart. Jer. 17:9-10, Jn. 13:2, Act. 5:3, Jn. 1:46-48.
    b. Total disbelief of Christ’s coming- ‘My lord delayeth his coming’ The same thought in the heart of Israel in the wilderness when Moses was on the mountain Ex. 32:1-6. The heart of man is set to do evil if a thing is at an immense distance. Eccl. 8:11, Ez. 12:22, 27, 1Kg. 12:26-33, 2Pet. 3:3-5.
  2. “He begin to smite his fellow servants”. All who serve in the house of God are fellow servants. 1Cor. 3:9, 2Cor. 6:1, Rev. 1:9.
    a. Persecution of co-workers or people of God. 2Chro. 16:10, Jer. 20:1-2, 1Kg. 22:24-25. Smiting can be with slander Jer. 18:18, Neh. 6:5-9. They will make themselves Lord over God’s heritage. 3Jn. 9-10, Is. 65:5.
    b. Immoral life style- “eats and drink and be drunken’ Rom. 16:18, Phil. 3:17-19, 2Pet. 2:13-15, 19-22, 1Tim. 6:5. The persecutors of God’s people have commonly been the most vicious and immoral men.
  3. Matt. 24:50-51. Their doom. “The Lord of that servant will come unexpected. “Putting off the thoughts of Christ’s coming will not put off his coming” M. Henry. 1Thees. 5:2-3.
