“The coming of the Lord will be very happy and comfortable to those who are ready, but dismal and dreadful to those who are not, this is represented by the different state of good and bad servants, when their lord comes to reckon with them. It is likely to be well or ill with us to eternity, according as we are found ready or unready at that day for Christ comes to render to every man according to his work” Mathew Henry

  1. Matt. 24:45-51. Who then is a “faithful and wise servant, who his lord has made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season?
  2. The good servant will be a good steward. He is faithful 1Cor. 4:2, 1Tim. 1:12, Heb. 3:2, in what was committed to him. Rom. 3:2, 2Tim. 1:14, 1Tim. 1:11; 6:20, Gal. 2:7, 2Cor. 5:19, 2Tim. 2:2.
  3. He is doing as his office requires- feeding his house hold in due season. Ps. 78:70-72, Ez. 34:14-16, Jn. 21:15-17, Act. 20:20, 1Pet. 5:1-4.
  4. He is to be found doing when his master comes.
  5. Consistency at the work. At what so ever time the master comes, he is found busy at the work of the day “As with a good God the end of one mercy is the beginning of another, so with a good man, a good minister, the end of the duty is the beginning of another” M. Henry. Phi. 2:19-21, 25-30.
  6. Perseverance in his work till the Lord comes. 1Tim. 4:16; 6:14, Act. 6:4; 26:22, 2Tim. 3:14, Rom. 2:7, Rev. 2:25.
  7. Matt. 24:46-47. “Blessed is that servant…he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
  8. All that die in Christ are blessed Rev. 14:13, 2Cor. 5:8, Phil. 1:21, 23, Is. 57:1-2, Rev. 20:6.
  9. “There is a peculiar blessedness secured to them that approve themselves faithful stewards, and are found so doing. Next to the honor of those who die in the battle field, suffering for Christ as the martyrs 2Tim.2:12, Rev. 3:21, is the honor of those that die in the field of service, ploughing, and sowing, and reaping for Christ” M. Henry
