WHEN SHALL THESE THINGS BE? WHAT SHALL BE THE SIGNS OF THY COMING AND THE END OF THE WORLD? Matt. 24:3-13, Mk. 13:3-13, Lk. 21:7-19, 20-24…4
Key: SCHAFF: “When the Lord open his mouth, we should open our ears and hearts”
LET HIS COMING FIND YOU A GOOD SERVANT AND NOT AN EVIL ONE. Matt.24:43-51
“It is the great duty and interest of all disciples of Christ to watch, to be awake and keep awake, that they may mind their business. We must watch for our Lord’s coming, to us in particular at our death, …that is the great day with us, the end of our time and His coming at the end of time to judge the world, the great day for all mankind….To watch implies not only to believe that our Lord will come, but to desire that he would come, to be often thinking of His coming, and always looking for it as sure and near, and the time of it is uncertain” Mathew Henry
- Matt. 24:43-44. “…If the good man of the house had known what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore, be ye ready…”
- We know not the day of our death. Gen. 27:1-2, 2Tim. 4:6. We should always learn from the rich fool of Lk. 12:15-21, so boast not yourself of tomorrow, do what you want do today very well. Jas. 4:13-14, Pro. 27:1, Eccl. 9:10.
- Our gathering together unto Him 2Thess. 2:1 may come at a time we don’t expect, just as thief in the night. 1 Thess. 5:2-5, Rev. 3:3, 16:15. His coming to judge the world will also be as a thief in the night. 2Pet. 3:10
- The children of this world are thus wise in their generation. Lk. 16:8( 1-8). In their days, they divide the night into four watches, of three hours each. The house keeper will wake up at mid night and watch. We have a house to keep, that is our own soul, which we must keep with diligence, and we must not sleep as others.
- Matt. 24:45-51. The faithful and wise servant. More prudent, discreet, shrewd. Matt. 7:24; 10:16; 25:2, Lk. 16:8. He is prudent and judicious in the means and methods of faithfully serving the master. The servant in question is the head steward just as Joseph in Potiphar’s house Gen. 39:4-6, who was intelligent, faithful, and trusted head-slave of that house.
- The Church of God is that household. Eph. 2:19; 3:15, 1Cor. 3:9, 1Pet. 2:5. Paul call it Church of the living God, the pillar and ground of truth 1Tim. 3:15, the church of God which Christ purchased with His own blood. Act. 20:28.
- The stewards are Gospel ministers and indeed all disciples. 1Cor. 4:2. Those ruling over the house Heb. 13:17, the overseers or bishops. In Mk 13:37, Jesus addressed all disciples by saying, “And what I say unto you I say unto all Watch.” It continues.
