Key: SCHAFF: “When the Lord open his mouth, we should open our ears and hearts”
The word mysteries used by the Lord Jesus and in the Pauline’s Epistles is different from what it means to the Greek, Egyptians or any other national associations like the “Eleusinian mysteries” which are really profound, and difficult to comprehend. “The Creek word musterion signifies something into which one is initiated, something hidden or secret, and known only to the initiated” Broadus John A. In the New Testament it denotes that which could not be known unless revealed, whether it be in its nature simple or profound. In other words ‘previously hidden truth, now divinely revealed’, in which the supernatural elements still remains despite the revelation.
- These seven parables of Mat. 13, called “mysteries of the kingdom of heaven” (v. 11), taken together, describes the result of the presence of the Gospel in the world during the present age, that is, the time of seed-sowing which began with our Lord’s personal ministry, and ends with the “harvest” (v. 40-43)” C. - In other words, from the time of His earthly ministry, His work of redemption, which is the great work that make sowing and reaping possible Jn. 4:35-37. He has laboured and now the disciples are sent out to reap. Christ the foundation 1Cor. 3:6-11. “I plant” that is sow and Apollos “watered”
- The harvest of the world is also coming, beginning with the first resurrection or rapture of the saints 1Cor. 15:50-54, 1Thess. 4:16-18, 2Thess. 2:1, our gathering together unto him; the harvest of the earth Rev. 14:14-20, Is. 63:1-6, the judgment of the nations Matt. 25:31-46.
