Matt. 7:22-23 “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have we cast out devils? And in your name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, you that work iniquity.”

  1. “In your name have we not cast out devils/ and in your name done many wonderful works?
  2.  Healings, miracles and good deeds were part of His ministry. He did that:
  3. To fulfil His ministry. Matt. 8:16-17
  4. To express His compassion. Matt. 14:14; 20:34, Mk. 1:40-41; 5:19; 
  5. To convey God’s mercy. Phil. 2:27, 18-24
  6. To prove that God has sent Him. Act. 2:23; 10:38.
  7. To destroy the works of the devil.1 Jn. 3:8, Heb. 2:14, Act. 10:38.
  8. To manifest the work and the glory of God. Jn.9:4-5, Lk. 13:10-17, Jn. 11:40
  9. Miracles, casting out of demons are still relevant today.
  10. The New Testament Church a miracle community. Act. 3:2-8; 4:30-31; 5:12-16; 8:5-8; 9:17; 28:8-10, Jas. 5:13-17.
  11. Miracles are part of the great commission. Mk. 3:14-15; 16:15-20, Matt. 28:18-19, Act. 13:32-33. 1Kg. 8:56, Jer.1:12, Is.55:10-12.
  12. Salvation from sin or the new creation is the foundation of good wonderful works. Eph. 2:8-10, Tit. 2:11-14. Salvation is by grace through faith; is a free gift, and wholly without works. Rom. 3:27-28; 4:1-8, 6:23, Eph. 2:8. Salvation first, followed by works. Saved from the guilt and penalty of sin, the believer is being saved from the habits and dominion of sin Rom. 6:14, Phil. 1:10, 2:12-13, Rom. 8:2, 2Thess. 2:13, Gal. 2:19-20, 2Cor. 3:18, and will be saved in the sense of entire conformity to Christ. Rom. 3:11, Heb. 10:36, 1Pet. 1:5, 1Jn. 3:2. Those saved.
  13. Have eternal life Jn. 5:24.
  14. They are the righteousness of God, have no move have any sense of guilt. Rom. 4:20-25. 
  15. They have become partakers of divine nature. 2Pet. 1:4
  16. “Depart from me you workers of iniquity” We should take note that, sin originated with Satan Is. 14:12-14; entered the world through Adam Rom. 5:12; was and is universal Rom. 5:19; the universal sinful state of nature, that state is our inheritance from Adam. Rom. 5:12-21. The penalty are curses and death-spiritual, physical and eternal. Gen. 3:16-24
  17. Workers of iniquity want to do good works without being saved. Act. 8:18-24.
  18. They follow the way of Balaam. 2Pet. 2:15-22.
