Daniel’s Confession and Prayer for Jerusalem—Gabriel Comforts him by the Prophecy of the Seventy Weeks. Dan. 9:1-27 continues.

Text: Dan. 9:26-27

The determined wrath of God upon the desolator continues. Dan. 9:27

  1. Rev. 8:2. The seven angels stood before God and to them were given seven trumpets. Trumpets are used for war or a solemn assembly Num. 10:1-10, in this instance it is for war 1Cor. 14:8, Amos. 3:6, Ex. 19:16.  God is waiting for the thing described in 8:3-5 before taking action.
  2. Rev. 8:3-5 “And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer…”
  3. The censer is always mentioned with the High priest. Lev. 16:12, Heb. 9:4. Anyone who intrudes into the office always incur the wrath of God. Lev. 10:1, Num. 16:1-19, 2Chro. 26:19.
  4. This may be no one else than Christ in His high priestly work. Heb. 4:14-16; 6:20-7:28. We should remember that the word angel of the Lord has been used of Him severally in the scriptures. Gen. 16; 18, Judg. 6.
  5. “…was given much incense that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar…” Rev. 5:8, Lev. 16:13, Num. 16:46-47, Ps. 141:2, Lk. 1:10, Heb. 4:15-16; 10:19-22. This is God’s answer to the prayer of the saint for the avenging of the blood of the martyrs Rev. 6:10 upon the “earth dwellers”.
  6. Rev. 8:4-5. “And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth.” The effect of the prayers that has ascended into heaven are voices, and thundering, and lightning, and an earthquake.
  7. Rev. 8:6-7. “The first trumpet” The third part of the trees along with all green grass are burned off. The beauty of nature is first destroyed.  You can figure that out scientifically for the dwellers of the earth.
  8. Rev. 8:8-9 “The second trumpet” The maritime world will lose one third of its business. “The mountains be shaken into the heart of the seas” Ps. 46:2 It will hurt the salty waters.
  9. Rev. 8:10-11 Fire will be used in the third trumpet, to remember his covenant with Noah in Gen. 9:13-17 not to use water to destroy the earth again. “Wormwood” means bitter, see Jer. 9:13-15; 23:14-15, Lam. 3:15, 19. This is the first time in the book of revelation that men will die as a result of the plagues.
  10. Rev. 8:12. The light of the sun, moon and stars, together with the other celestial phenomena, are disturbed; and the world becomes darker. He is not smitten the sun, moon and stars completely because of Gen. 8:22.
  11. The last three trumpets are grouped together and are described as three “woes” upon the earth, emphasizing God’s judgment upon humankind.
  12. Rev. 9:1 “…I saw a star fall from heaven to the earth; and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.” When stars, these are angels, Job. 38:7 even satanic angels are called stars Rev. 12:4. However, he will descend from heaven and will be trusted with the key of the bottomless pit, and the demons there have a named head. It must be the angel that has the key of the bottomless pit. Rev. 20:1
  13. Rev. 9:2. The bottomless pit is the pit of the abyss Lk. 8:26-31, Rev. 17:8; 20:1-10. Is also for fallen angels and demons. Job. 26:5-6. Smoke is fire within. “The whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning…” Deut. 29:23 See Rev. 18:8-9. The name of the head of the place is “Abaddon” Pro. 15:11; 27:20, Job. 26:6, “Apollyon” is the name of leader. It means destroyer Jer. 4:7; 6:26, Is. 16:4. It continues
