DANIEL’S VISION OF THE FOUR BEASTS. DAN. 7:1-28
“The Son of man. Not merely Son of David, and King of Israel, but Head of restored humanity;…the seed of the woman crushing Antichrist, the seed of the serpent, according to the Protevangel in Paradise (Gen. 3:15). The Representative man shall then realize the original destiny of man as Head of the creation (Gen. 1:26, 28)—the Centre of unity to Israel and the Gentiles. The beast, which taken conjointly represents the four beasts, ascends from the sea (ch. 7:2; Rev. 13:1); the Son of man descends from “heaven.” Satan, as the serpent, is the representative head of all that is bestial; man, by following the serpent, has become bestial. God must, therefore, become man, so that man may cease to be beast-like and become truly manly.” CCEP
Text: Dan. 7:13-14 “I saw in the night visions, and behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him…”
- “This scene is identical with that of Rev. 5:6–10. There the ascription of praise of the “kings and priests” (cf. v. 18, ref. a) ends with the words, “and we shall reign on the earth.” Rev. 6. opens the “vexing” of Psa. 2:5, introductory to setting the king on Zion (Psa. 2:6; Rev. 20:4)…Verse 13 describes the scene in heaven (cf. Rev. 5:6–10) which, in fulfilment, precedes the events which Daniel sees in vision in vs. 9–12. The historic order will be: (1) The investiture of the Son of man with the kingdom (Dan. 7:13, 14; Rev. 5:6–10). (2) The “vexing” of Psa. 2:5, fully described in Mt. 24:21, 22; Rev. 6–18. (3) The return of the Son of man in glory to deliver the “smiting” blow of Dan. 2:45 (Dan. 7:9–11; Rev. 19:11–21). (4) The judgment of the nations and the setting up of the kingdom (Dan. 7:10, 26, 27; Mt. 25:31–46; Rev. 20:1–6). C. I. Scofield
- “Dan. 7:13, 14 is identical with Rev. 5:1–7, and antedates the fulfilment of Dan. 2:34, 35. Dan. 7:13, 14 and Rev. 5:1–7 describe the investiture of the Son of man and Son of David with the kingdom authority.” Scofield. According to J. B. Baxter in “Explore the Book”– “CHRIST, THE LAMB, IN THE PLACE OF SUPREME CONTROL”. Already, He is enthroned in heaven, however the opening of the seals and the worship of the saints is a future event, and that is after the rapture of the saints.
