- Dan. 4: 10-18. “Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great. The tree grew, and was strong, and …and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it… behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven; He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree…”

- Trees are used as symbols of kingdoms. Ez. 17:24- represents the kingdom of the Messiah. Jehovah will bring down high trees, exalt low trees, dry up green trees and make dry trees to flourish
- Green tree and dry tree Lk. 23:31- Christ and ordinary man.
- Used as symbol of evil men, sinners. Ps. 37:35, Matt. 7:8, Lk. 3:9, Jude 12.
- As symbol of saints. Num. 24:6, Ps. 1:3; 82:12, Hos. 14:8, Eze. 47:7.
- However, “this represented his exceedingly prosperous condition, the height of his exaltation, the extent of his dominions and renown, the splendor of his kingdom, the multitude of his subjects who received protection from him, and the peace and plenty they enjoyed, ver. 20–26. beasts … shadow under it— the beasts. Je. 27:6, 7. Eze. 17:23; 31:6. shadow. La. 4:20. the fowls. Mat. 13:32. Lu. 13:19. Implying that God’s purpose in establishing empires in the world is that they may be as trees affording men “fruits” for “meat,” and a “shadow” for “rest”
