Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream (2) Dan. 2:1-49

The king’s wise men were not able to live up to standard, they failed when the king needed them most. “All branches of fortune telling and insight in the future by demons, or by stars are limited. When God is involved in a case, as here, such other powers are absolutely helpless…” Dakes. “Nebuchadnezzar was a troubler of God’s Israel, but God here troubled him; for he that made the soul can make his sword to approach to it. He had his guards about him, but they could not keep trouble from his spirit. We know not the uneasiness of many that live in great pomp, and, one would think, in pleasure, too. We look into their houses, and are tempted to envy them; but, could we look into their hearts, we should pity them rather.” M. Henry.

  1. Dan. 2:5-6. “…The thing has gone from me; if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses made a dunghill but if ye show the dream and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive gifts…”
  2. God confounded the wise. Gen. 11:7-8, Ps. 33:10, Job. 5:12-14; 12:16-21, Is. 40:22-26; 41:11-12; 44:25, Jer. 20:11. ‘Providence so ordering it that the magicians of Babylon might now be as much confounded and put to shame as of old the magicians of Egypt.’ M. Henry
  3. Dan. 2:7-11. It is impossible for mortal to solve the problem. However, God has the answer. There is no impossibility with God.            Gen. 18:13-4, Job. 42:2, Ps. 115:3, Is. 43:13, Matt. 19:26, Lk. 1:37. The Lord is able to fulfill all his promises Rom. 4:21, subdue all things Phil. 3:21, do exceeding abundantly Eph. 3:20, save to the uttermost Heb. 7:25, and keep you from falling Jude 24.
  4. Dan. 2:12-13. The king became angry. “The wrath of the king is a messenger of death” Pro. 16:14; 19:12; 20:2, Eccl. 10:4.
  5.  He decreed that all the wise men should be slain. They had decrees that cannot be altered Est. 1:19; 8:8, Dan. 6:8. God has a way of reversing all human decrees that is against you. Est. 8:1-6.
