STUDIES IN THE BOOK OF DANIEL

DANIEL AND HIS COMPANION. Dan. 1:1-21

“Daniel and his friends made their decision to be faithful to the laws of God before they were faced with the king’s delicacies, so they did not hesitate to stick with their convictions” Life application study Bible. “The convictions of the young men were so strong that they refused to go with the crowd even under the orders of the king of Babylon. God can use young men with such convictions” Roger E. Dickson. We are called to a life of: self-denial, and self-sacrifice. We are to mortify our flesh, put the body under control through fasting often. In running the race which we ae called to, we are to lay aside all hindrances, focus on Jesus, despise not correction, follow peace and holiness, love not the world and learn from Esau. Ours like these men should live a gospel life. Phil. 1:27, 1Thess. 2:1-20, 2Tim. 2:2-13, 20-21.

  1. Dan. 1:9. “Now God had brought Daniel with favor and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.”
    a. An everlasting sure covenant of mercy, kindness, good will and compassion has been waiting for them. Is. 55:3b (Amp). Favor will locate you as with:
    I. Joseph in Potiphar’s house, Gen. 39:1-5, 21-23 and in the palace Gen. 45:5-7, 11, 18, 20.
    II. Esther in the palace Est. 2:15-17; 5:1-8; 6:1-3; 8:2-6, and before the king palace. Est. 5:1-3.
  2. Dan. 1:10-14
    a. “I fear my lord the king…why should he see your faces worst liking than the children which are of your sort? Then shall make me endanger my head to the king” “Babylonians regarded captives of this caliber as highly valuable. If the king noticed a downturn in their health or appearance, he would likely become angry and demand the supervisor be replaced.” faithlife study Bible
    b. Prove thy servants…ten days; and give us pulse to eat, and water to drink”
    I. “Pulse’-Heb, zeroim, seeds, which is sown. It consists of vegetables and grains-wheat, barley, peas, lentles, beans. This does not mean that the Jews were strict vegetarians.” Dakes.
    II. They definitely must be believing the miraculous hand of God. They were seeing the invisible. They were risking their lives. Heb. 11:17-19, 24-27, Jonathan-1Sam. 14:1, 6-14, Dan. 3:1-6, 12-17, Ruth. 1:12-18, Est. 4:13-16; 5:1-4; 7:1-6.
